Our Aim: To Listen, To Act, To Make an Impact
At Wigan Youth Zone, Youth Voice is all about making the Youth Zone a place where we actually want to be. It’s our space, and we believe young people should have a real say in how it runs.
We know our ideas, opinions, and experiences matter, and through Youth Voice, we make sure they’re heard. We speak up for other young people, share what we think needs to change, and work with staff to make those changes happen.
What We Do at Wigan Youth Zone
As the Youth Voice group at Wigan Youth Zone, we’re here to represent other young people. We listen to what people are saying, bring ideas forward, and help make the Youth Zone better for everyone.
We also try to be friendly and approachable, so if someone has an idea or concern, they feel comfortable coming to us. We want everyone to feel included and confident enough to get involved.
Trying New Things & Building Confidence
Being part of Youth Voice has helped us step outside our comfort zones. We’ve built confidence, improved our communication, and learned how to work as a team. Some of us have even spoken in meetings we never thought we’d be part of.
It’s not just about improving Wigan Youth Zone, it’s also about improving ourselves.
Making a Difference
We don’t just talk, we take action. We work on ideas that make a real impact, from small changes to bigger projects across Wigan Youth Zone.
Here are some of the things we’ve been involved in:
Talking About Big Issues
We’ve had discussions about things like the social media ban for under 16s, sharing our opinions on how it could affect young people and making sure our voices are part of the conversation.
New Inflatable Skate Park Ramp
We’ve helped bring ideas forward for a new inflatable skate park ramp. It’s about making activities more fun and giving more people something exciting to get involved in.
Fundraising for New Equipment
We’ve come up with ways to fundraise so we can improve equipment and spaces in Wigan Youth Zone, making sure everyone benefits.
More Girls-Only Sessions
We pushed for more girls-only sessions, including rugby, so more young people feel comfortable trying new sports and getting involved.
More Football Fixtures
We’ve talked about increasing football fixtures, giving more opportunities for young people to play, compete, and represent the Youth Zone.
Suggestion Boxes Around the Youth Zone
We’ve helped introduce more suggestion boxes across Wigan Youth Zone so it’s easier for everyone to share ideas anytime.
Speaking at Board Meetings
Some of us have even spoken at board meetings, sharing our ideas directly with decision-makers. It’s a big responsibility, but it shows that young people’s voices really do matter here.
Open to Everyone
Youth Voice at Wigan Youth Zone is open to anyone. You can come to a meeting, share your ideas, or join the group and help make change happen.
We also wear our Youth Voice uniform at sessions and events so we’re easy to spot, if you’ve got something to say, just come and talk to us.
Equality, Fairness & Opportunities
We care about making sure everyone gets the same opportunities, whether that’s trips, residentials, sports, or activities. We want Wigan Youth Zone to be a place where everyone feels included.
