Youth services in Leigh were at the heart of a special visit to Leigh Youth Hub last week. The High Sheriff of Greater Manchester, Martin Ainscough CBE DL, and the Mayor of Wigan, Cllr Jenny Bullen, joined us to see the impact of our work.
This visit was an exciting chance to highlight the growing partnership between Wigan Youth Zone, Leigh Youth Hub, Wigan Council, and Leigh Sports Village Company Ltd. Together, we are delivering free, high-quality youth services in Leigh.
A Lifeline for Local Young People
We currently run two weekly sessions for young people aged 8–19. Additionally, we provide targeted support for 16–25-year-olds who are not in education, employment, or training (NEET). This programme is funded by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP).
As a result, young people in Leigh now have access to a safe and welcoming space. Here, they can build skills, gain confidence, and connect with others.
“We’re incredibly proud of the impact our Leigh provision is having. In the last financial year alone, we recorded 4,542 visits to the satellite centre – a testament to the need and value of this service. It’s only possible through the power of partnerships, and it was fantastic to showcase the work we’re doing to support and inspire young people locally.”
— Sikander Ali, Operations Manager, Wigan Youth Zone
By focusing on both universal and targeted support, our team is ensuring that youth services in Leigh meet the needs of the community and help young people reach their potential.
