On Friday 13th May, 7 senior members from Wigan Youth Zone were treated to an exciting evening of entertainment in honour of #MentalHealthAwarenessWeek2022.
These young people were given the opportunity to attend a live performance of “Singin’ in the rain” at the Manchester Opera House, a fantastic musical that showcases the truth behind the “Hollywood Lifestyle” and how everything is not as it seems.
Wigan Youth Zone members had an amazing evening – for many of these young people, this was their first ever experience of live theatre. The immersive atmosphere is something these youngsters will never forget.
Eva, A Wigan Youth Zone senior member said:
“Thanks, Youth Zone for taking me to Singin’ in the rain. It was really good. I would certainly watch it again, it was my personal favourite.”
Nikki, Wigan Youth Zone’s Head of Youth Work Said:
“It was so great to see our members having an amazing time with smiles on their faces. Being able to provide these experiences for young people is truly what youth work is all about.
Theatre has been proven to help with mental health as it provides an alternate reality for people to escape from the real world and take their mind off of any struggles or stresses that they may be experiencing.
Wigan Youth Zone aims to ensure that all young people are equipped with all of the resources and knowledge they need to look after their mental health. They also provide 1-2-1 support for members who are in need of guidance, or simply just someone to talk to.

It is hoped that by providing these experiences, Wigan Youth Zone can continue to make a long-lasting, meaningful impact on the lives of young people across Wigan and Leigh.
