On Friday 10th September, David Clarke (from David Clarkes Golf Shops) hosted his annual Charity Golf Day at Dean Wood Golf Course (which was provided for free), all in aid of Wigan Youth Zone.
24 teams of businesses from throughout the local area began teeing off at 9 am in order to support the charity which is a valuable lifeline for the young people of Wigan and Leigh.
Prizes such as David Clarke Vouchers, Kenzo Perfume and even Moschino Sunglasses were up for grabs. Prizes were awarded to the top teams and individual scorers for closest pin. A team from Fitness First won first place, with Moto GB coming second and in third, BEA Construction Consultants.
The day was a resounding success, with a staggering £5000 being raised to help better the lives Wigan Youth Zone’s members.
Sharon Mclaren, Wigan Youth Zone’s business development manager said:
“It was a very successful day, even if the weather wasn’t perfect for golfing. All 24 teams thoroughly enjoyed taking part.”
“We raised more than £5,000 which is a fantastic amount. We would like to thank our main sponsor, David Clarke from David Clarkes Golf Shops, and everyone else who donated items sponsored a tee, and participated in the day.”
Wigan Youth Zone has supported more than half a million young people since it first opened in 2013 by providing someone to talk to, something to aim for, and somewhere to go. However, they rely on local fundraisers like David Clarkes Annual Golf Day to help raise a minimum of £1.6 million every year to keep those doors open and offer invaluable services for the local youth.
