Wigan Youth Zone challenging the Wigan and Leigh community to Paint the Borough Red!
Wigan and Leigh’s charity for young people, Wigan Youth Zone, has launched a Paint the Borough Red campaign in order to raise vital funds for the young people of Wigan and Leigh.
The campaign is to inspire the whole community including, individuals, families, schools, workplaces and other organisations to come together throughout October to “Paint the Borough Red” by doing a variety of red-themed fundraising initiatives such as wearing red to school/work day, have a red bake sale or have an event featuring red.
In doing so, the community will raise vital funds to enable Wigan Youth Zone to continue providing affordable programmes throughout the current challenging financial times.
All monies raised will go directly to supporting their efforts to assist families with the cost of living issues by:
- Enabling them to continue charging only 50p per visit to the Youth Zone (actual cost to the charity is £25)
- Enabling them to provide home-cooked meals for £1
- Helping them offer a safe, warm and engaging environment where young people are inspired and empowered to fulfil their potential
Lynsey Kendal Head of Fundraising said: “We are asking individuals, families, schools and businesses to dig out your favourite red jumper, button up a red blouse, pull on some red socks and grab your lucky red pants, and join us in wearing it red for Wigan Youth Zone! Help us to raise awareness, understanding and vital funds. Any donation that you can make will make a real difference, supporting and investing in the young people of Wigan and Leigh.”
Local business and Wigan Youth Zone Patron, NRB Chartered Accountants have already accepted the challenge and pledged their support by asking their team to wear red to work on 21st October.
NRB said: “We are delighted to be supporting Wigan Youth Zone as it is a local organisation close to our hearts, raising money to provide young people with affordable home-cooked meals and a positive environment during difficult times. This support will inspire young people to fulfil their potential and create a greater future for themselves.”
Wigan Youth Zone costs £2 million a year to keep its doors open to continually create opportunities for the young people of Wigan and Leigh. The charity needs to raise this money through donations and investments from local businesses, as well as kind donations from the community. In recent years, inflation and cost-of-living increases have made this target more challenging to reach than ever before. As demand for support continues to grow with an ever-increasing number of young people needing its services.
Whether it is a special non-uniform day where everyone wears red, a bake sale with red treats or transforming an office with red decorations, Wigan Youth Zone is asking anyone to take part, have fun and raise some meaningful money for the charity’s work.
