Why the Community Shows Up for Its Young People
March has been a month, hasn’t it? The kind where your step count is impressive but your sleep schedule is… questionable. From early morning networking (powered entirely by caffeine) to dancing the night away in heels that absolutely felt like a good idea at the time, it’s been a whirlwind—and one that perfectly shows why the community shows up for its young people.
At Wigan Youth Zone, we see the power of our local community every day but March really took things up a level.
£65,000 Raised for Young People Across the Borough
In just one month, thanks to the incredible support of local businesses, partners, and residents, we raised an amazing £65,000 to support young people across Wigan and Leigh.
That funding goes directly towards providing a safe space, opportunities, and support for young people in the area—helping them build confidence, develop skills, and feel like they belong.
And honestly? That level of generosity says everything about this community.
Business Breakfast with Kris Radlinski
We kicked things off on 13th March with our Youth Zone Business Breakfast, bringing together local businesses and supporters from across the borough.
Our guest speaker, Kris Radlinski, CEO of Wigan Warriors, delivered an inspiring (and genuinely funny) talk on leadership, resilience, and building a winning culture—sharing insights that resonated far beyond the world of sport.
The room was full of energy (and pastries), and it was a brilliant way to connect businesses with the impact of supporting young people locally.
Charity Ball Brings the Community Together
Two weeks later, we swapped business cards for ballgowns at our Wigan Youth Zone Charity Ball and what a night it was.
Supporters from across the borough came together to donate, celebrate, and yes dance the night away. The result? A phenomenal fundraising total and an unforgettable evening filled with generosity, laughter, and community spirit.
Events like this show the very best of our area: people coming together to make a difference for the next generation.
Supporting Young People Across the Borough
When you support Wigan Youth Zone, you’re doing more than attending an event or making a donation.
You’re helping provide:
- A safe place for young people to go
- Positive activities and youth work support
- Opportunities to build confidence and skills
- A strong sense of belonging
This is why community fundraising across the borough is so important and why it works. People genuinely care.
Thank You to Our Supporters and Partners
A huge thank you to all of our sponsors, partners, and supporters who made these events possible. Your continued support helps us reach more young people and create lasting impact across Wigan and Leigh.
(And yes, you’re all absolute legends.)
What’s Next at Wigan Youth Zone?
If March proved anything, it’s that we don’t sit still for long.
Coming up, we’ve got:
- Be a Kid for the Day – giving adults the chance to experience Youth Zone life first-hand
- Birthday Fundraisers – celebrating your big day while supporting a great cause
- Paint the Borough Red – our big, bold, and slightly messy birthday campaign
There are so many ways to get involved, support young people in the borough, and be part of something special.
Why the Community Shows Up
So, why does the community show up for its young people?
Because it’s who we are.
From early morning business events to late-night fundraising celebrations, people across the borough continue to give their time, energy, and support to make a real difference.
And at Wigan Youth Zone, we couldn’t be more grateful.
Here’s to more breakfasts, more balls, more laughs and even more impact.
(And next time… I am wearing comfier shoes.)
