Best Holiday Club Ever!
Update from Chris Dean - Holiday Club and Junior Club Manager
As Holiday Club and Junior Club Manager, I’m incredibly proud to reflect on what has been one of our most vibrant and impactful Easter half terms yet here at Wigan Youth Zone.
Over the course of the holidays, we welcomed 317 young people, generating an amazing 841 visits across the programme. Every single day was filled with energy, laughter, and opportunities for young people to try something new, build friendships, and create lasting memories.
Affordable, Accessible, and Packed with Value
We know how important it is for families to have access to high-quality childcare during school holidays, especially something that doesn’t break the bank. That’s why our holiday club continues to be one of the most affordable in the North West, offering 10 hours of care (8am–6pm) for just £15 per day.
Even better, that price includes breakfast, dinner, snacks, and access to over 20 different activities every single day. It’s not just childcare, it’s a full experience designed to keep young people active, engaged, and supported.
A Half Term Full of Easter Fun
This Easter, we went all out with a themed programme that had something for everyone. From high-energy activities to creative fun, the weeks were packed with highlights including:
- Ice cream van treats
- Afternoon disco
- Mini sports day
- Nerf wars
- Boxing sessions
- Staff vs. kids sports games (always a favourite!)
- Outdoor play and skate park sessions
- Football and climbing wall challenges
- Face painting
- A lively back-to-school party
- …and so much more!
Supporting Families Who Need It Most
We were also proud to provide HAF (Holiday Activities and Food Programme) and spaces through Feeding Britain, ensuring that local families across Wigan and Leigh could access our provision, many at no cost. These partnerships are vital in helping us reach those who need us most and ensure no young person misses out.
More Than Just a Holiday Club
Holiday clubs like ours play a crucial role in young people’s development. They offer
- A safe, structured environment during school breaks
- Opportunities to stay active and healthy
- The chance to build friendships and social skills
- Experiences that create lifelong memories
Nutrition is also a key focus for us. Throughout the holidays, young people enjoyed healthy, balanced meals such as chicken salad wraps and pasta bakes, helping to fuel their energy for a full day of activities.
A Parent’s Perspective
One of the most rewarding parts of our work is hearing directly from families. This Easter, a parent shared:
“My girls attended Wigan Youth Zone during the Easter holidays and had an amazing time. As they attend regularly, Wigan Youth Zone kindly offered them free places, which I am incredibly grateful for, as I would not have been able to afford it otherwise.
As a parent, I truly appreciate their kindness and generosity. The girls had the best time and made wonderful memories. Thank you so much for your support.”
