FAQ

What are your opening times?

Wigan Youth Zone is open 7 days a week, all year round except for bank holidays.

To see what sessions are on – check out our sessions timetable.

What is the age range of young people who can attend the youth zone?

There are different sessions on each day, the sessions are split into Juniors and Seniors.

Junior sessions are open to all members aged 8 through to year 6 of primary. Senior sessions are open to all members in High School and up to the age of 19 (or 25 for those with additional needs).

The Venue is open to all teen members aged 16 – 21 (15 year olds who are in Year 11 are also allowed to attend).

What activities do you have on offer?

There’s tons to get involved in at Wigan Youth Zone, we have dedicated areas open 7 days a week for all members as well as special events. Here’s a taste of just some of the activities we offer here;

Tennis, judo, boxing, football, skate park, guitar lessions, fencing, climbing, day trips, cheerleading, drama sessions, street dance, archery, textile design, sculpture, knitting, hairdressing, nail art, baking, CV building sessions and much, much, much more.

Take a look at our activity area pages to find out more about what each of our rooms teams offer for members.

We don’t offer pre-booking for all our activities at the youth zone, this is because we like to give all our members the freedom to book onto whatever activity or session they like when they arrive on any particular day.

How safe are the premises?

We operate the same as any activity centre like ours and with all such facilities, there is small risk with any adventure activity that young people partake in when at the Youth Zone.

To ensure this is a rare occurrence, each area is manned by a member of staff – meaning that young people in each area are supervised at all times.

Can young people leave when they attend the youth zone?

Seniors (those in High School or up to age of 19) are free to leave the youth zone whenever they like.

Juniors (aged 8 through to year 6 of primary) who enter and exit the premises are monitored, as a rule they must be signed out of the youth zone by a parent or carer. If there are circumstances where a junior member needs to leave the youth zone on their own, prior notice needs to be given to our reception team and signed off by a parent/carer.

I’ve heard you do Duke of Edinburgh awards at the centre – who is this open to?

We do offer D of E awards to members at the youth zone, this is open to all members – find out more about our Duke Of Edinburgh scheme here

I want to contact someone at the youth zone – how do I do this?

Our reception team is available 7 days a week and can answer most general questions – call 01942 612 061 to speak to the team. Alternatively, if your query is quite specific – take a look our contact us page and you should be able to find the right person to speak to here.

My child has specific needs and/or medication, how do you manage this?

All children and young people are welcome at Wigan Youth Zone, regardless of their needs and requirements. We have trained staff covering all our sessions so we can offer bespoke support for all the young people that attend the Youth Zone and their needs are met whilst their here.

To ensure that young people are fully supported from the very beginning, we ask parents/carers to speak to one of our Inclusion Team before their child’s first visit so we are fully informed and can provide all the support they need.

For further information or if you have any questions specific to a member, email our Inclusion Team on engagement@wiganyouthzone.org and they will be happy to discuss your child’s needs.

Are there rules my child must adhere to when attending the Youth Zone?

We ask all young people who attend the youth zone to respect the staff, building and other members when attending a session.
