What is NCS?

NCS is an amazing experience available to all 16-17 year olds across the country, offering young people the chance to learn new skills, meet new people and enhance their CV. To date almost 400,000 young people have taken part in NCS courses across the country and we’re proud to welcome it to Wigan Youth Zone!

Anyone aged 16-17 can take part in NCS, whether you’re in college, training or unemployed. As the sessions are over half term, they’re easy to access too.

The NCS cohort will take place during half term (Monday 22nd – Sunday 28th October)

About the Course

ABOUT THE COURSE

The NCS course will take place over Autumn half term (22nd – 28th October), split into 3 phases over 1 week. Each phase has a different theme;

PHASE 1: Adventure

PHASE 1: Adventure

Phase 1 details

This takes place at an outdoor activity centre (Monday – Thursday) and is a chance for the team of young people to meet each other, learn attributes such as confidence, leadership and communication skills as well as take part in some amazing activities like rock-climbing, canoeing and zip-lining.

PHASE 2: Discovery

Phase 2 details

This stage will mainly be home-based and Wigan Youth Zone throughout the day. The discovery
phase allows young people to develop life skills that will set them ahead in life and build on those gained from phase 1, as well as gaining qualification in first aid.

PHASE 3: Social Action

Phase 3 details

The 3rd phase takes place over 30-hours, this allow young people in their groups to design their own community action project focusing on something they are truly passionate about, they will make their plans a reality, delivering the project and really making the changes they want to see.

HOW MUCH WILL IT COST?

Just £35 for members
NCS normally costs over £1500 per place to run, however the vast majority of this cost is covered by government funding meaning NCS costs a maximum of £50, however Wigan Youth Zone offers a £15 discount for Wigan Youth Zone members therefore it costs just £35.

Code of Conduct

Code of Conduct

We want everyone to have an enjoyable and valuable experience when partaking in NCS. In order for this to happen we ask everyone on the programme to abide by the following code, if the code is broken this may result in exclusion from the NCS programme.

1. No alcohol, illegal drugs or highs
2. Only smoke in designated smoking areas
3. Adhere to curfews
4. Only enter your room or dorm
5. No sexual activity
6. Treat others how you would like to be treated
7. Push yourself, you will only get out what you put in
