Open/Close Menu Wigan Youth Zone is a purpose built, state-of-the-art youth facility in Wigan town centre which opened in June 2013.

The Tour De Youth Zone Team are getting ready for their epic 500 mile bike ride next week – and you can follow suit for the 1km Family Bike Ride which is to take place on Mesnes Park this Tuesday. 

On Tuesday 22nd October, the cyclists will make their way through to Wigan Youth Zone, where the Youth Zone will also be hosting the 1K Family Bike Ride around Mesnes Park for families of all ages to take part in from 9.30am until 2pm.

The Tour De Youth Zone team will be joined by two amateur cyclists from Wigan Youth Zone who are cycling just under 500 miles from Carlisle to Croydon to raise vital funds for local young people.

Andy Nicholls – Community and Engagement Manager and Catherine Bryan Head of Arts at Wigan Youth Zone will depart Monday at 8am on 21st October and end the challenge Friday, 17:30pm, 120 hours later at Croydon Youth Zone.

The challenge will take the following route:

The riders will be completing the whole route or joining for stages along the way to include as many people as possible. The below miles are approximate.

  • Carlisle to Blackburn – 100 miles (Carlisle and Blackburn Youth Zones)
  • Blackburn to Altrincham – 76 miles (Chorley (Inspire), Wigan, Bolton (Lads and Girls Club), Oldham (Mahdlo), Manchester Youth Zones)
  • Altrincham to Telford – 89 miles (Warrington and Wirral (The Hive) Youth Zones)
  • Telford to Buckingham – 98 miles (Wolverhampton (The Way) Youth Zone)
  • Buckingham to Croydon – 93 miles (Barking and Dagenham (Future), Barnet (Unitas) and Croydon (Legacy) Youth Zones)

All funds raised will go towards Wigan Youth Zone which offers a range of services for local young people including counselling, mentoring, employability and enterprise programmes, days out and holiday clubs as well as over twenty activities seven days a week.

The route forms part of the ‘Tour De Youth Zones’ challenge organised by national charity OnSide Youth Zones which has a network of 13 state-of-the-art centres across the country.
