A large number of Wigan Youth Zone staff, along with our trusty mascot, Jaguar Jeff enjoyed a meeting with HRH Prince of Wales yesterday, Weds April 3rd.
Ten staff members braved the drizzly weather to welcome Prince Charles upon his entrance to the Uncle Joe’s Mint Balls Factory in Wigan Town Centre, after an invitation from Youth Zone supporters, Uncle Joe’s.
Prince Charles attended the factory as part of a whistle-stop tour of Wigan where he visited local cultural hub, The Old Courts, attended Wigan Little Theatre for a short performance and of course the local William Santus factory that makes what is surely Wigan’s favourite traditional sweet – Uncle Joe’s Mint Balls!
Uncle Joe’s has been a long-time supporter of Wigan Youth Zone as Bronze patrons, as well as helping to fundraise and supporting WYZ events. The Uncle Joe’s team gave Prince Charles a full tour of their traditional confectionary factory, which has stood the test of time – operating since 1919.
Youth Zone staff had a chance to speak briefly with the Prince prior to his tour of the facility, introducing him to the WYZ Mascot, Jaguar Jeff, who shook hands with the Prince and shared a joke. Staff members also were able to briefly explain our charity’s work and remind him of the Royal Visit we had in 2016 with his son, HRH Duke of Sussex, Prince Harry.
This meeting marks the 3rd Royal encounter for most of our staff, Wigan Youth Zone has welcomed many dignitaries since opening in 2013 including HRH Prince Edward, HRH Duke of Sussex, Prime Minister Dave Cameron and a number of high profile MP’s.
Thanks to the Uncle Joe’s team for the invitation, allowing us to share our charity’s work with another high profile visitor.
