The National Citizen Service Comes to Wigan Youth Zone this October Half Term
Wigan Youth Zone will be delivering a one-week NCS course this October half term for anyone aged 16 or 17
The NCS course will run from Monday 22nd – Sunday 28th October and is broken into three individual phases; Adventure, Discovery and Social Action, designed to offer young people a variety of opportunities, build confidence and gain attributes such as confidence, leadership and communication skills.
The ‘Adventure’ phase consists of a three-night residential course delivered in North Wales including tons of outdoor pursuits like rock-climbing, canoeing and zip-lining. After this, young people will get involved in the ‘Discovery’ phase which is mainly based at home or at the Youth Zone – allowing young people to build on their skills gained and in phase one and also gain a qualification in First Aid.
The final phase of the project gets young people out in the community, delivering a social action project of their own design to support the local community – a great opportunity for 16 & 17 year olds to become actively engaged with the place they live.
The NCS course at full price would cost over £1500 per young person but due to funding from the government and a small discount for Wigan Youth Zone members, we can offer this course at a price of just £35 per place (this includes food, accommodation, and all activities whilst young people are away).
We are offering all Wigan Youth Zone members aged 16 or 17 the opportunity to join our NCS cohort and make the very most of their October half term. To find out more and register interest, go to https://www.wiganyouthzone.org/young-people/national-citizens-service/
