We are launching a brand new Mentoring programme at Wigan Youth Zone, its main aim is to offer assurance to young members and supports them with the challenges that come with day-to-day life.

The mentors build relationships with members and offer guidance and advice on a variety of personal, academic, and professional situations – ultimately, our mentors give young people someone to talk to when they need it most. Mike is our dedicated Mentoring Coordinator, he manages the programme and identifies the right mentor for each young person.

Could you be a mentor?

Are you aged 21 and over? Do you want to make a difference to the life of a young person?

Wigan Youth Zone’s new BBC Children in Need mentoring programme will support young people aged eight to 18-years from the local area. We aim to increase confidence, self-esteem and help young people make positive choices through one to one support.

We are looking for volunteers to provide support for young people through one to one mentoring for up to six months. Mentors will provide weekly mentoring sessions in an informal setting after school and at weekends, building a positive relationship with a young person. Full training is provided along with continued support throughout your journey.

Please note that all applicants will be subject to an enhanced DBS check (funded by WYZ) along with two references.
