Josh Windass visit to Wigan Youth Zone
Wigan Athletic forward Josh Windass made a special visit to our Junior Session on Tuesday evening here at Wigan Youth Zone to take part in an Every Player Counts disability sports session with more than 30 Wigan Athletic Community Trust participants.
The Every Player Counts project aims to get more people with disabilities across Wigan get involved in football and sport. Coaches from the Community Trust deliver Every Player Counts sports sessions on a weekly basis here at Wigan Youth Zone.
Wigan Athletic and the Community Trust are keen supporters of Wigan Youth Zone and they have been working in partnership with us since the opening of the Youth Zone in June 2013.
Wigan Athletic and the Community Trust have helped support the Youth Zone’s football provision since opening, allowing us to deliver a varied and high quality programme of training, skills sessions and tournaments on our four 4G floodlit pitches. In addition, we have hosted many collaborative events both here at the Youth Zone and at the DW Stadium, engaging families from across the borough in sport and supporting our fundraising efforts.
As part of Wigan Athletics’ Together Week, and with their upcoming Saturday fixture against Brentford celebrating the work of Kick It Out, and the Together programme of equality and diversity, Josh joined our juniors to enjoy a number of multi-sport activities.
Josh said: “It was great to take part in the session and to be able to give something back to the community and put smiles on the children’s faces. We as players know that the community plays such an important role at this club and I really wanted to get involved with the work of the Community Trust. The coaches who run the sessions deserve loads of credit for the amazing work they do.”
Jennifer Royle, Communications Manager said: “A big thank you to Wigan Athletic and the Community Trust – it was great to have Josh come along and take part in our session on Tuesday evening. The kids really enjoyed it and had a great time.”
