Wigan Youth Zone hosted their Annual Golf Fundraising Event at The Mere Resort and Spa in Knutsford on Tuesday 5th July, including Q&A session with Sir Alex Ferguson and stand up from Jason Manford.
The event was sponsored by Intersport, IKO plc, Under Armour, Roofing Consultants Ltd.
Golfers who attended the day enjoyed a golf display by World Trickshot Champion, Geoff Swain and 18 holes at the beautiful Mere Golf Resort in Knutsford.
The day’s golfing was followed with a glittering evening of entertainment and food at the Sportsman’s Dinner, attended by almost 400 guests including Wigan Warriors coach Shaun Wane, Wigan Athletic’s Chairman David Sharpe and Youth Zone patrons, Dave Whelan and Martin Ainscough CBE.
The evening included a Q&A session with host for the evening and presenter, Jim White and our special guest, Sir Alex Ferguson.
Auctions took place on the night for unique and exclusive items including exquisite diamond earrings kindly donated by Boodles, signed sports memorabilia and hospitality packages donated by St Helen’s RFC, Salford Red Devils, Wigan Athletic and Manchester United.
The event managed to raise circa £100,000, with all proceeds going to important and innovative youth work at Wigan Youth Zone, a purpose-built facility in the centre of Wigan that offers local young people somewhere to meet new people, play sports and learn new skills.
John Harker MBE, Director and General Manager at WYZ, said:
“To ensure the youth zone is accessible for everyone, we open our doors 7 days a week and are constantly reinventing the sessions and work done inside, which makes our fundraising events essential to our future success.
“We couldn’t be happier with the fantastic amount raised at our Annual Golf Event, we will do a lot of good work with this money.
“We’d like to thank Jim White, Sir Alex Ferguson and Jason Manford who all gave their time to help raise funds for a worthwhile youth charity like ours. We’d also like to thank all those who attended the event and donated generously.”
