Open/Close Menu Wigan Youth Zone is a purpose built, state-of-the-art youth facility in Wigan town centre which opened in June 2013.

More than 3,500 people turned out for the sunshine-filled Big Bang Opening of Wigan Youth Zone and families from across the borough came out in force to celebrate the opening of the purpose-built £6.3 million centre in an action-packed day across the town centre.

The day began with a host of activities in Mesnes Park ranging from inflatable assault courses, paintball, sports and a balloon race.

As crowds gathered in the sunshine, founder patrons Dave Whelan, Martin Ainscough CBE and Bill Ainscough took to a horse drawn carriage with the FA Cup to lead a parade through the town flanked by the 30-piece Pemberton Old Wigan DW Brass Band.

Later in the day, Parsons Walk filled with thousands of onlookers to watch founder patrons, leader of Wigan Council Lord Peter Smith and young people cut a ribbon to declare Wigan Youth Zone officially open.
