MEET RYAN

I was having a throw around with some of the lads when I was approached by Janis who asked me to come down and train for Wigan WYZards. Being a part of the sessions I learnt a lot from Janis who has helped me improve massively as a player…

SPORTS HALL

Our state of the art Sports Hall is open 7 days a week, 52 weeks a year. Our aim is to provide TRY, TRAIN, and TEAM activities for all our members on a daily basis. Our sessions cater for all ages and abilities with the main theme being FUN!

Throughout the week we offer a variety of sports from football, rugby, tennis, cricket, lacrosse, table tennis, badminton, netball and many, many, more.

Each day is different from the next with specialist coaching staff to help deliver quality sessions. Our TRY, TRAIN and TEAM offer allows for young people to engage at a level they are comfortable as well as progress into our sports teams here at Wigan Youth Zone.

Our sports offer will give the young members of WYZ the opportunity to play competitive sport, make new friends and learn new skills and sports along the way.

Young members who are looking to go into the sports industry may also apply to become a young leader, this would give invaluable work experience for all involved. Find out more about Young Leaders here.

Our sessions are as follows;

  • Junior sessions – Tuesday nights 4pm – 8pm, Sat and Sun morning 10am – 3pm
  • Senior sessions – Sunday to Thursday 4pm – 9pm (except Tuesdays), Friday and Sat night 4pm – 10pm

WHAT IS TRY, TRAIN AND TEAM?

These are the main principles that underpin the work we do in the sports team, to aid participation and lead to positive lifelong habits.

Try – Try sessions are purely recreational, the primary purpose of these sessions are to get young people involved and taking part in a new sport.

Train – Train activities allow young people who have an interest in a particular sport to train and perfect their skills. It’s also a great opportunity for us to encourage members to invest time in a sport that they have natural talent in.

Team – The final stage in the pathway, if the young person is willing, would be to join one of our Wigan Youth Zone sports teams – playing competitively and creating a sporting habit for life.
