Wigan Youth Zone’s Annual Ball has been hailed a huge success, raising almost £84,000 for the Wigan Youth Zone Charity.
Over 300 people attended the glitzy event, hosted by ITV’s Paul Crone at The DW Stadium on Saturday 11th November.
The fundraising dinner followed the theme of ‘The Great Wigan Bake Off’; the baking competition ran in the Youth Zone over the past 3 months to find the best young baker from its members. Guests enjoyed videos celebrating the various stages of the competition at the ball and even judged the final.
Attendees of the event were presented with two starters – Pie A and Pie B – inspired by recipes from the two final teams of the Bake Off competition and asked to vote for their favourite. The votes were counted throughout the evening and the winning team was announced as ‘Pie B’, a fantastic creation of chicken, bacon and pistachio devised by youth zone members, Bradley Harrison and Jakub Lawrynowicz.
Guests attending the event enjoyed a fantastic four-course dinner and took part in the charity auction offering luxury prizes including an elegant Boodles earrings set and a one week stay in Barbados. Guests bid generously and donated a significant amount throughout the evening, all of which will go towards the life-changing work at the Youth Zone.
Wigan Youth Zone members also entertained the crowds with some exclusive performances put together in the Youth Zone’s performing art and dance sessions especially for the Ball. The headline performance came from Diane Shaw, top UK soul singer, topped off with DJ and dancing late into the morning.
The Ball was supported by Santander and Barclays, who match funded the event.
Anthony Ashworth-Steen, Executive Director at Wigan Youth Zone, said:
“This was my first Annual Ball as Executive Director of Wigan Youth Zone and what a special event it is! It was amazing to meet so many supporters of the Youth Zone and enjoy such a fantastic evening of entertainment.”
“I’d like to thank Debbie Ainscough for helping organise the event along with all those who supported the night and helped raise such a significant amount for the Youth Zone.”
